Farmers Market this Saturday + New Variety

This Saturday I will be at the River City Farmers Market in Marietta 9am-noon for those of you who want to get a jump on the Christmas shopping season! This will be my only market in November, though I will be setup at another market before Christmas in December, as well!

For this Saturday’s market only, I will be bringing with me a limited number of packages of a new herb I encountered while in Brazil last winter: may I introduce you to Lippia alba, also known as “erva-cidreira” in its native country of Brazil. This herb has a delightfully floral flavor and is traditionally used in Brazilian folk medicine as a sedative, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, and to treat fever.

One of my friends in Brazil was growing Lippia alba in her garden, where I enjoyed drinking it every day during my visit (it’s delicious iced, too!). She was happy to put me to work in her backyard, and I was thrilled to learn as much as I could about all the native plants she was growing!!

I experimented with growing three Lippia alba plants at the Kettle Farm this year. They thrived throughout the growing season, but now the test will be if they can survive our Ohio winter! If you would like to pick up a package of Lippia alba at this Saturday’s market, I only have four packages, so feel free to let me know to hold a package for you—any unclaimed packages will be sold as first come first serve!

Looking forward to seeing you Saturday!

Earning my keep at a friend’s house in Brazil!
